Taylor sets Premier League record

Filed under: Darts Articles — admin @ 2:25 pm

Defending champion Phil Taylor produced a televised record 116.01 average as he went top of the Premier League table.

The 8-3 win over John Part also ended the Canadian’s hopes of reaching the play-off finals at Wembley next month.

The 48-year-old Stoke star said: “I am delighted, but more importantly I’ve qualified for the play-offs - but I won’t be relaxing.”

His previous televised record was 114.53 set at last year’s Blue Square UK Open against Wes Newton.

He has a free week in the Premier League next week, his next match is against third-placed Mervyn King.

Phil Taylor eyes six more world titles

Newcastle-under-Lyme’s Phil Taylor wants to win 20 world titles before he retires from the sport.

The 48-year-old, who lost his Premier League crown last month, is aiming for his 15th crown later this year in the sport’s first £1m tournament.

He said: “I’ve become more ambitious, I want 20 world titles, because then I can retire with a record that will never ever be beaten.”

Taylor plays next in the Desert Classic in Las Vegas that starts on 30 June.

Adrian Lewis through in Vegas

Filed under: Results — admin @ 2:21 pm

Adrian Lewis produced a great 164 checkout in the final leg to beat Vincent van der Voort 6-5 at the Las Vegas Desert Classic.

“That was the best shot of my career, without a doubt,” said Lewis. “Vincent was sat on 92 so to take out 164 under that pressure is brilliant.”

Meanwhile, Andy Hamilton eased into the second round with a 6-1 win over American qualifier Chris White.

They both join defending champion Phil Taylor in the last 16.

Taylor takes on his old rival Dennis Priestley, Lewis is up against Peter Manley and Hamilton will play Premier League winner James Wade in the second round on Friday.
